The U12 Girls Blue Win 2012 Region Cup
Final or no final this was to be a challenging match, continuing the ongoing rivalry between Wellington Wave and the Davie Sharks U12 Girls that began during the 2011 Region Cup finals. The match ended in a tie during regulation then overtime and PK's with a victory for Wellington to go on to play in President's Cup. The girls faced Davie again in the finals at Orange Classic this past December which also ended as a tie in regulation and a win for Wellington during overtime play. The last match up, before Region Cup, between the two teams was at our own Wellington Shootout in January where the final game was tied once again in regulation, then still tied in overtime and Davie was able to defeat Wellington in PK's with a 2-1 win.
The girls knew going into the Saturday final that they would have to give their all if they wanted to win. They are a close team who have really bonded over the last 4 and 5 years. They were motivating each other during the week preceding the game and giving each other words of encouragement to play as a team and to be there for one another. They even organized exchanging a symbolic token along with hand written notes to inspire right before the final game for that one last push of "Here We Go...Let's Do This As A Team!!" Well all of that motivating and pumping up paid off big time. The girls worked together as a solid team to defeat Davie 4-0 in a well played match and claim the title of Region Cup Champions for the 2nd year in a row! The team will play in President's Cup in Auburndale, FL on April 20-22, 2012.
